“Each multiplicity is symbiotic; its becoming ties together animals, plants, microorganisms, mad particles, a whole galaxy.”

(Deleuze and Guattari, A Thousand Plateaus)

A landscape in the dark, devoid of vegetation at first, yet infinitely abundant; full of possibilities for the avatar’s hands to plant multi-species glowing flora, fungi and multitudinous foliage. The landscape is alive under the starry night—the vegetation responds to the user’s hand spontaneously—watching a meadow slowly bloom as bioluminescent plants gradually fill up the empty terrain and listening to the tintinnabulation of wind chimes blowing in the breeze with the sounds of crickets chirping at night. With spatial and sensory feedback, Becoming is an immersive interactive virtual reality (VR) experience. The VR fabulation attempts to open up an interactive space from a subjective and bodily perspective to foster a form of re-imagining the flourishing of life on the planet. It aims to institute a process of becoming, to develop a form of perception and to cultivate a sensibility to relate to the more-than-human world.

The short video presented here is a screen recording of VR gameplay, captured in 2D with sound while playing through in a simulated world.

Becoming

Becoming can mean reflowering a barren landscape under a starry sky with a luminous multitude of plants and mushrooms. Becoming can mean fabricating a virtual reality to cultivate a sensitivity and a form of perception that enables a relationship with the more-than-human world.
